Reliability function of a class of time-dependent systems with standby redundancy

چکیده
By applying shortest path analysis in stochastic networks, we introduce a new approach to obtain the reliability function of time-dependent systems with standby redundancy. We assume that not all elements of the system are set to function from the beginning. Upon the failure of each element of the active path in the reliability graph, the system switches to the next path. Then, the corresponding elements are activated and consequently the connection between the input and the output is established. It is also assumed each element exhibits a constant hazard rate and its lifetime is a random variable with exponential distribution. To evaluate the system reliability, we construct a directed stochastic network called E-network, in which each path corresponds with a minimal cut of the reliability graph. We also prove that the system failure function is equal to the density function of the shortest path of E-network. The shortest path distribution of this new constructed network is determined analytically using continuous-time Markov processes. 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Cold standby redundancy optimization for nonrepairable series-parallel systems: Erlang time to failure distribution
In modeling a cold standby redundancy allocation problem (RAP) with imperfect switching mechanism, deriving a closed form version of a system reliability is too difficult. A convenient lower bound on system reliability is proposed and this approximation is widely used as a part of objective function for a system reliability maximization problem in the literature. Considering this lower bound do...

متن کاملRedundancy allocation problem for k-out-of-n systems with a choice of redundancy strategies
To increase the reliability of a specific system, using redundant components is a common method which is called redundancy allocation problem (RAP). Some of the RAP studies have focused on k-out-of-n systems. However, all of these studies assumed predetermined active or standby strategies for each subsystem. In this paper, for the first time, we propose a k-out-of-<em...
متن کاملA New Nonlinear Multi-objective Redundancy Allocation Model with the Choice of Redundancy Strategy Solved by the Compromise Programming Approach
One of the primary concerns in any system design problem is to prepare a highly reliable system with minimum cost. One way to increase the reliability of systems is to use redundancy in different forms such as active or standby. In this paper, a new nonlinear multi- objective integer programming model with the choice of redundancy strategy and component type is developed where standby strategy ...
متن کاملReliability Optimization for Complicated Systems with a Choice of Redundancy Strategies (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Redundancy allocation is one of the common techniques to increase the reliability of the bridge systems. Many studies on the general redundancy allocation problems assume that the redundancy strategy for each subsystem is predetermined and fixed. In general, active redundancy has received more attention in the past. However, in real world, a particular system design contains both active and col...
